Dr Maureen Mommersteeg BSc, DrC
I was born and raised in the small town of St. Thomas, Canada. When I was six I had the opportunity to live in Rockhampton for a year and since then it was my dream to return Australia. In June 2017, I took the leap to move to Sydney to continue my Chiropractic career. I am now embarking on my next adventure and chapter of my life here in Townsville.
From a very young age I have participated in a variety of sports and activities, which include; ice hockey, soccer, golf, volleyball, basketball and more. My connection with Chiropractic began after countless injuries sustained in ice hockey. I immediately knew I wanted to provide the same health care and assistance for others. I completed a 4-year Bachelors degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Science while on an ice hockey scholarship at Wilfrid Laurier University. I continued my education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, where I completed a 4-year Doctorate of Chiropractic. I incorporate many modalities and techniques into my practice style, to best suit the patient and their condition.
I believe my passion for sports and athletics shines through in my style of practice. I strive to provide individualized, patient-centered care to resolve the initial pain and dysfunction but also address the underlying cause. I combine my manual chiropractic adjustments with soft tissue therapy, dry needling and functional rehab, to allow the body heal and prevent future injury. My goal is to help patients help themself to a healthier and happier future, allowing them to reach their athletic and lifestyle goals. My Exercise Science degree and experience also allows me to prescribe and teach functional rehab to patients giving them that often missed but much needed piece to full recovery and optimal performance.
I am excited to have the beautiful open air Back2Health Functional Rehab Studio to be able to introduce and implement my rehab skills providing a comprehensive treatment plan for my patients.
As you can see, I love to be active and stay moving, and I want to give my patients the same opportunity.
On my days off you can find me moving by enjoying a great hike, sweating at the gym, trying new sports, browsing the Sunday markets or soaking up the sun near the water.
